Vocati Cloud

Enterprise Cloud Computing

Vocati’s Enterprise Private Cloud is a better way to efficiently manage, allocate and deploy your IT assets. Our virtual solutions are easily scalable and dependable. And, the dedicated cloud infrastructure paired with our Telcommunications expertise means that you are free to concentrate on deploying solutions to your business – fast.Vocati Cloud

The term cloud originated as a metaphor for the Internet, which is why it’s still depicted as such in most network diagrams. In the context of cloud computing, it means more or less the same thing — “An abstraction for the complex infrastructure it conceals.” Leveraging the benefits of VMware’s Virtual Infrastructure 3, OpenVZ, and XEN, Vocati fulfills all the promises of cloud computing without any of its contingent liabilities. Vocati deploys clouds exclusively on a dedicated, private basis, which means you will not be sharing resources with our other clients.

Windows, Red Hat Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu and several other Operating Systems are supported as ‘guest’ operating systems. In addition, we have dozens of pre-built telecommunication systems ready to deploy including the popular Trixbox, FreePBX, Vicidial, Freeswitch and Asterisk.  Virtualization’s most obvious benefit is consolidation of servers, but its less obvious benefits are what make it a truly revolutionary technology for the datacenter: by abstracting the server from the hardware it runs on, Virtual Machines (VMs) become truly portable, allowing them to move from physical server to physical server without reconfiguration, which facilitates rapid provisioning and recovery.

Highly-Efficient Resource Utilization

Servers that were previously kept on separate physical chassis for functional segregation can be consolidated in a virtual cloud environment. Servers rarely use their hardware’s full capacity, and our hybrid virtualization techniques allows for highly-efficient distribution of a physical server’s resources between virtual machines. Our solution takes that one step further and allows for virtual machines’ workloads to be distributed across multiple servers using Distributed Resource Scheduler.

Administrative Access and Control

Vocati Communications offers clients access to their Cloud architecture through our customized virtualization client.  This client allows for configuration of Distributed Resource Scheduler, VMware HA, and other parameters, as well as VM template definitions, snapshots, and reconfiguration of VM CPU and RAM allocations. Full performance monitoring is also made available, allowing you to drill down into performance metrics from the cluster level, to individual ESX host servers, and to Virtual Machines themselves.

Scalability On-Demand

Scaling is easy with Vocati’s Enterprise Cloud solutions. Depending on where you’re resource-constrained, just add another front-end processing server or another pair of storage servers. Provided front-end servers are using the same processor revision, our systems will automatically distribute your processing load to the newly introduced servers, as well as migrating virtual machine storage files to the newly-available storage servers.

Managed Virtual Machines

While an Enterprise Cloud architecture dramatically simplifies the physical infrastructure layer, they do not alleviate the challenges of managing the Windows and Linux machines running in that virtual environment. Vocati brings to bear its more than a decade of experience in managed hosting and supporting complex environments to what’s running inside your Cloud, from Web and application servers, to file services and transaction-intensive databases.

High-Availability

High-availability is an absolute requirement for today’s critical Internet applications. We leverage VMware’s, OpenVZ and XEN’s HA capabilities which allows for virtual machines to be restarted on any available processing server in the event that the processing server they’re running on fails. Storage back-ends employ block-level replication and similarly allow for automatic failover in the event the primary storage node fails.

Maximum I/O

Access to high-performance storage has been one of the principal limitations of virtualized environments, where multiple virtual machines trying to access shared storage over a physical server’s storage connections introduces a performance-limiting bottleneck.

Secure Clouds

Vocati’s approach of deploying hardware exclusively on a private basis protects against security exploits targeted at the hypervisor or underlying hardware. Shared consumer cloud offerings do not. As a result, Vocati’s Enterprise Cloud offerings are suitable for anyone with sensitive data, HIPAA or other regulatory compliance requirements. Security benefits similarly extend to the networking topology, where everything runs locally off dedicated gig-e switches, which not only provides security, but guaranteed, dedicated I/O between front-end ESX servers and their back-end storage.
